Some Advice For Your Tires

winter tires

Since the tires are such an important safety feature on your vehicle, listening to some good advice about them is important. This covers everything from what you should look at when you buy new tires, how to maintain them, and when to change them. You will need to make sure that you have the right tire for the right season for optimal safety. Winter driving in winter conditions does require proper winter-approved tires. Depending on the area, it is dangerous and illegal to drive without winter tires when you have winter conditions.

When purchasing new tires, it is important to realize that all tires are not the same, so you will need to gain some knowledge about tires. By doing this, you will hopefully also understand how important they are at determining the safety of your vehicle and how they can impact the performance of your vehicle. You will need to pair your vehicle with the correct tires what comes to performance (speed, load), weather conditions (winter, all-season), dimensions (passenger cars, SUV, vans, light trucks), type of engine (petrol, electric, hybrid) and type of surface (on the road, off-road).

Once you have selected the correct type of tire as it comes to dimensions and performance, the important part of selecting a tire for the season will be of utter importance for your safety. You will have a few tire options to choose between, as you can opt to go for dedicated winter tires, which means that you will alternate between all-season tires and winter tires. Or then, if you live in areas that don’t see that much winter, you can go for an all-weather tire option.

You then have the maintenance step is to ensure that you maintain your tires in good drivable condition so that they last as long as intended.

Proper maintenance includes regular checking of the condition of the tires, which is done fairly quickly by seeing if they have any visual defects. A tire service station should be consulted if you notice any visual defects on the tires.

You also need to check the tire’s tread depth to know when they need to be changed to new ones.

Tire pressure should be checked regularly, and it varies with temperature, so it is good to check it when you have big temperature changes. Low tire pressure increases tire wear and increases the fuel consumption of the vehicle.

Rotation of the tires by alternating the front and rear positions will ensure that the tires last longer and that all four tires can be changed simultaneously. Only changing two tires is not good from a safety perspective as you will have a different grip on the front and rear position, which can cause over and understeer.

Tires should be changed to new ones when the tires are worn out, determined by the tread depth. When it goes below 5/32 inches, it is time to change to a new set of tires.

When it comes to seasonal changes, you will need to change before the winter weather arrives and change back to all-season tires when you are sure that the winter weather will not return.
